On Thursday, December 23, the Toledo Walleye and Sylvania Youth Hockey Club are partnering to host Try Hockey for Free. This event is being held in conjunction with the Toledo Walleye Winterfest celebration and is the first of its kind.
Try Hockey For Free will take place on the outdoor rink venue at Fifth Third Field. Kids ages 5-12 will be able to try the great sport of hockey for free and do it on an outdoor rink, no experience required.
Skates, helmets, sticks, and on-ice instruction will be provided for the day at no charge. Spots are limited. Players must register online to be eligible to participate. (Walk-ins not eligible).
Try Hockey For Free is SOLD OUT.
Families should plan on arriving at Fifth Third Field at 11:30 a.m. to get checked in and geared up. Kids will get geared up indoors then proceed to the outdoor rink for some fun. The on-ice portion will run from 12 to 12:45 p.m. We will have instructors on site to help tie skates and be on the ice with the kids. We encourage those players who have full equipment to bring it with them. Players should be fitted in loose but weather-appropriate clothing for the on-ice portion.
Please consider the following based on outdoor conditions that day:
- Loose fitting sweat pants or snow pants (recommended)
- Helmet (hockey helmet or bike helmet are okay)
- Gloves/mittens (any kind)
- Ski mask for ears and face (optional)
- Thermal underwear (optional)
