Meet the new Walleye Daniel Leavens

Daniel is a 6’1”,200 pound forward from Toronto, Ontario obtained by the Walleye via trade with Wichita. He played four years at Robert Morris University, and split last season between Wheeling, Allen and Rapid City in the ECHL. We caught up with Daniel for a quick Q-and-A session.

Q: Who was your favorite hockey player growing up?

A: “When I was a kid, my favorite player was Pavel Datsyuk. He was so skilled offensively but he was also extremely solid defensively.”

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do away from the rink?

A: “I love to play X-Box. I’m a huge video game fan.”

Q: How are you spending the off-season?

A: “I’m getting together with friends for some softball games and playing golf. I’m also making sure I work out to be ready for the upcoming season.”

Q: Do you have any pets?

A: “I have a dog named Ozzy, he’s a Havanese. My dad is a big Ozzy Osbourne fan, he named him.”

Q: What’s your “go-to” food?

A: “If I have time to cook or go to a restaurant, I’m doing steak. I prefer a New York strip, medium-rare.”

Q: What did you study in college?

A: “I was a sports management major. I see myself working for a sports team when I’m done playing.”

Q: Did you play in Bowling Green-Robert Morris game at Toledo Walleye Winterfest?

A: “Yes, that was during my sophomore season. I remember it being cold and rainy. However, it was a childhood dream come true to play in an outdoor game. My best memory from that game was my line coming up with the game-tying goal.”

Q: Thoughts on coming to Toledo?

A: “I’m excited to join an organization which has had success over recent years. I want to play on a winning team, and Toledo has a culture for winning.”
