Third period comeback leads to Division and Conference Title: Down in Cincinnati 2-1 with five minutes left in the game, the Walleye picked up goals from Shane Berschbach, Kyle Bonis and Austen Brassard in just 1:42 to take a 4-2 win. The win clinched a fourth straight division title for the Walleye and coupled with Colorado’s loss on Saturday the Western Conference became Toledo’s for a second straight season.
Back to back to back 8,000: It has been an amazing year for the Walleye fans and they continued that with a third straight crowd of 8,000 on Friday night. Toledo has had an astounding 27 sellout crowds this season. A total of 265,225 fans have come through the Huntington Center gates for an average of 7,578 which is 102% capacity.
Nagle collects a new wins mark: Goaltender Pat Nagle stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced Friday for his 35th win of the season. His 29 save outing on Saturday marked his 36th win of the year setting a brand Toledo ECHL record for goaltender wins in a single season. The old record was former Walleye coach Nick Vitucci who won 35 games as goaltender for the Toledo Storm in the 1994-95 season.
Watson reaches 100: Head coach Dan Watson has reached a milestone in his own right with 100 wins in less than two years as a head coach. He guided the Walleye to 51 wins in his first season and has followed up with 49 this year with two games left in the regular season.
New home wins record also set: Toledo secured win number 28 on home ice Friday which sets a new single season record in Walleye history. The previous best was 27 set in the 2015-16 season. The Toledo ECHL record is 29 set by the 2002-03 Toledo Storm team.
Final weekend of the regular season: Toledo finishes the regular season with just a pair of games left on the schedule. Friday night the Fort Wayne Komets will be in Toledo followed by a short trip into Indy on Saturday. Toledo is 2-4-1-0 against the Komets this season and 7-1-0-0 against the Fuel.
