(Toledo, OH) – Forwards Matthew Pohlkamp from the Bowling Green Falcons and Charlie O’Connor of the Bemidji State Beavers have each agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye.
Pohlkamp just finished his senior season with the Falcons on Saturday in the tough 3-2 double overtime loss in the WCHA Championship game. The Baxter, Minnesota native appeared in 40 games this year for BGSU, scoring a career high 13 goals with 10 assists, 16 penalty minutes and a plus 8. Over four seasons with the Falcons, Pohlkamp appeared in 160 games with 38 goals, 50 assists, 88 points with 58 penalty minutes and a plus 43 rating.
In each of the last three years the 23 year old never posted less than 23 points and led Bowling Green with a plus 20 rating in the 2014-15 season. He comes to the Walleye on quite a run with 10 points (5G, 5A) over the last five games helping the Falcons to the WCHA Championship game and had a goal in Saturday’s final. The 6’0”, 200 pound forward has been on the WCHA All-Academic team in each of the past three years.
O’Connor joins the Walleye after finishing his college career with Bemidji State and helping the Beavers to the WCHA regular season championship. Working as captain for the Beavers this year, he posted a career bests with 13 assists and 19 points over 41 games played. The native of Elk Grove Village, Illinois appeared in 148 games while accruing 26 goals, 27 assists, 53 points and 83 penalty minutes.
In the 2014-15 season, O’Connor posted a career best 11 goals while playing as a plus 11. Like Pohlkamp, O’Connor has been on the WCHA All-Academic team in each of the last three years. Prior to his time in college the 24 year old played a pair of seasons with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. In 111 games for the Steel, O’Connor scored 23 goals, 40 assists with 94 penalty minutes.
