The Walleye announced veteran forward T.J. Hensick will serve as team captain for the 2019-20 season, while Shane Berschbach will serve as alternate captain.
Hensick returns for a second season with Toledo. He played in 47 games with Toledo during the 2018-19 campaign, scoring 17 goals with 41 assists before getting called up to San Jose of the AHL.
“TJ is a proven scorer that we witnessed up close last year,” said Head Coach Dan Watson in August. “He is as gifted a player as we have ever seen here in Toledo and he brings even more than that to the locker room with his presence off of the ice.”
Hensick becomes the seventh captain in Walleye history, following Ryan Stokes, Randy Rowe, Adam Keefe, Kyle Rogers, Jared Nightingale and Alden Hirschfeld.
Berschbach returns for a sixth season with Toledo. He is the all-time Walleye leader in games played (320), assists (234) and points (330 points), and second all-time in goals (96).
The Toledo Walleye begin the 2019-20 season on Saturday at Brampton, with Opening Weekend at the Huntington Center on Saturday, November 2 vs. Florida and Sunday, November 3 against Fort Wayne.
